About Dick Barnett
Dick Barnett began consulting and coaching leaders in 1976. Leaders in industries and disciplines as varied as food service, trucking, construction, health care, colleges, banking, museums, fabricators, public relations, manufacturing, real estate, electronics and professional practices relied on Dick's unconventional insights. His clients included Nike, Epson, Subway Sandwiches, Tektronix, Special Olympics, Vtech, and Kaiser Permanente. CEOs have credited him with helping them retain their jobs, regain their effectiveness, and even maintain their sanity!
Before founding his consulting practice, Dick enjoyed a 22-year career in the Navy as an officer aboard several destroyers and a fleet tug, including several years in and around Viet Nam. While teaching at the Naval Academy, he wrote a textbook that was used by midshipmen for nine years. After graduating at the top of his Naval War College class, he brought modern organizational development techniques to the Navy in Europe. Before retiring as a Commander in 1984, Dick redesigned and implemented the program that trains the Navy's organizational development consultants. At the same time, he was responsible for training all the Navy's leadership instructors. His new book, Re-Ignite Your Business! The Secret of Leading with Confidence, Ease and Certainty, was published in June.
A graduate of Northwestern University, Dick was born in Evanston, Illinois, and grew up in Jefferson City, Missouri.and lived for many years with his wife in Portland, Oregon.
